Performing Tips from Non Mystery Performers

What can we learn from other performing arts?

Just a quick note…

I found this guy on YouTube and spent a weekend recently watching a bunch of his videos.

Andres Colin

He’s a musician, not a magician, but he does a lot of the same stuff we do.

  • Packs up his stuff and travels to the venue.

  • Unpacks and sets up his stuff wherever they want the “stage” to be.

  • Performs his effects (songs) well to entertain the guests.

  • Packs up and drives home when it’s all over.

Except for songs vs effects, a lot of everything else is the same things we do. I watched his videos and got some great tips on portable lighting and sound, packing your props, ideas for setting up to “stage’“ your area, etc.

Scan through the tons of videos he has available and I’m sure you’ll see more than one title that will catch your eye and give you some great tips for performing.

And if you come across something similar — a non mystery performer who has good “performing chops” we can learn from, post a link in the comments!

  • Here’s the video that got me drooling over some wireless lights:

So far everywhere I’ve performed recently has had (at least) decent lighting, but I just spotted a venue I’d like to play which is too dark, so I’d need some lighting. Plus, some of the “okay” places would have been upgraded to “really good” if I’d have a couple extra lights.
